Honestly?
Because telling the truth is expensive.
Truth can cost:
- money
- relationships
- comfort
- status
- opportunities
- approval
So most people slowly learn to perform instead.
Especially online.
The internet is full of people saying:
- what sounds intelligent
- what sounds moral
- what gets likes
- what protects their image
- what keeps customers happy
That doesn’t mean everybody is evil.
It just means humans adapt.
Fear changes honesty very quickly.
I noticed this a long time ago in business.
The more power someone has, the less honest feedback they usually receive.
Not because people are always malicious.
Mostly because people want something.
Access.
Money.
Approval.
Security.
Attention.
So eventually I got tired of polished answers and started valuing direct honesty more than almost anything.
That’s part of why this site exists.
Sometimes you just need someone outside your life to say:
“yeah… that sounds like bullshit.”
