Depends.
Some strangers are smarter than your friends.
Some friends are dumber than strangers.
That’s the truth.
People think “knowing you personally” automatically means someone gives better advice.
Not really.
A lot of people around you are emotionally involved in your decisions:
- they fear losing you
- they fear your growth
- they fear conflict
- they want control
- they project themselves onto you
A stranger sometimes sees things more clearly because they have nothing to gain.
Of course, strangers can also be idiots.
The internet is full of confident idiots.
That’s why you shouldn’t blindly trust anybody, including me.
But sometimes an outside perspective helps because there’s less emotional distortion.
You stop hearing:
“whatever makes you happy :)”
And start hearing:
“that situation sounds unhealthy.”
Big difference.
